{"id":1714,"date":"2016-09-24T22:00:21","date_gmt":"2016-09-25T03:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/?p=1714"},"modified":"2016-09-29T23:02:57","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T04:02:57","slug":"an-old-forester-trio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/2016\/09\/an-old-forester-trio\/","title":{"rendered":"An Old Forester Trio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/?attachment_id=1716#main\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1716\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"plain alignright wp-image-1716 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/signature-138x300.png\" alt=\"signature\" width=\"138\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/signature-138x300.png 138w, https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/signature-46x100.png 46w, https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/signature.png 296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 138px) 100vw, 138px\" \/><\/a>Tonight I&#8217;m comparing three bourbon whiskies from Old Forester. \u00a0The first is Old Forester Signature, a 100\u00b0 straight bourbon with no age statement. \u00a0Second is Old Forester 1870 Original Batch, a 90\u00b0 small batch straight bourbon with no age statement commemorating the first bottled bourbon in America (according to Brown-Forman&#8217;s claim). \u00a0I&#8217;ll finish with the 2010 edition of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon (a limited edition, annual release), which is a 12 year old vintage release (all 72 barrels were distilled on the same day) straight bourbon bottled at 95\u00b0. \u00a0By the way, I&#8217;ve presented them in order of increasing price and will be tasting them in the same order. \u00a0Here we go&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Forester Signature &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>The nose is rich with caramel, vanilla, cigar box, dark cherries and lemon drops. \u00a0On the palate, the tastes are similar with the addition of straw and black pepper. \u00a0The finish lingers with a peppery and leathery mingling of barrel char and caramel.
