{"id":1197,"date":"2013-12-10T12:11:05","date_gmt":"2013-12-10T18:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/?p=1197"},"modified":"2013-12-10T12:31:54","modified_gmt":"2013-12-10T18:31:54","slug":"pumpkin-beer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/2013\/12\/pumpkin-beer\/","title":{"rendered":"Pumpkin Beer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1242\" alt=\"Get Jacked!\" src=\"http:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Get-Jacked-300x146.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Get-Jacked-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Get-Jacked-100x48.jpg 100w, https:\/\/mark.abear.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Get-Jacked.jpg 920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last year was my first for sampling pumpkin beer and I was able to find some good ones, most of them on a trip to Orlando in late September. \u00a0My favorite from last year was Shipyard&#8217;s Smashed Pumpkin and honorable mention went to Weyerbacher&#8217;s Imperial Pumpkin Ale. \u00a0I wasn&#8217;t too fond of Southern Tier&#8217;s Pumking, a very highly respected and sought after pumpkin ale. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the ranked list from last year:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin<\/li>\n<li>Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale<\/li>\n<li>Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale<\/li>\n<li>Southern Tier Pumking<\/li>\n<li>Wasatch Pumpkin Ale<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This year, I&#8217;ve collected a new sampling and here&#8217;s the ranked \u00a0list with some tasting notes (the top 3 are real winners):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Uinta Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin Ale<\/strong> &#8211; mild spice, bold pumpkin flavor with a great oak aged flavor that really enhances the flavor&#8230; like an oak-ageChimay blue with pumpkin<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saint Arnold Pumpkinator<\/strong> &#8211; perfect balance of pumpkin and spice in a flavorful dark ale&#8230; a close second place<\/li>\n<li><strong>Epic Fermentation Without Representation<\/strong> &#8211; great balance of pumpkin and spice without overpowering the beer flavor&#8230; this is what Pumking should be and still a close third<\/li>\n<li>Samuel Adam&#8217;s Fat Jack &#8211; a heavy ale with bold spicy pumpkin flavor and great balance<\/li>\n<li>Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin &#8211; nice balance of pumpkin and spice in a flavorful pale ale<\/li>\n<li>Harpoon Imperial Pumpkin &#8211; great pumpkin flavor with plenty of spice&#8230; works well in a stout<\/li>\n<li>Southern Tier Warlock &#8211; stout ale with roasted malt, mild pumpkin, lots of spice and notes of coffee and cocoa&#8230; aftertaste is like burnt pumpkin pie<\/li>\n<li>Rogue Pumpkin Ale &#8211; nice pumpkin flavor with hardly any spice&#8230; pretty good<\/li>\n<li>Grand Canyon Pumpkin Springs Porter &#8211; not enough pumpkin flavor or spice, but a good porter<\/li>\n<li>Dogfish Head Punkin Ale &#8211; mild pumpkin, mild spice, mild roasted malt flavor, mild bitterness&#8230;
